Water Board Approves a 14.5% Rate Hike! |
The NYC Water Board has just approved a water and sewer rate increase of 14.5%! It's official. Another double-digit increase after last year's 11.5% rate hike, the highest increase in 16 years. Mayor Bloomberg had an opportunity to cut this year's rate increase but did nothing. Eliminating the Water Board's “rental payment” to the City would have cut the rate increase by 5 percentage points. But the Mayor just doesn't get it: The Mayor thinks no one cares about double-digit water and sewer rate increases. After City Council Hearings on water and sewer rates, the Mayor was quoted as saying, “this [rental relief] seems to me to be a brouhaha about nothing from a couple of people who want to run for higher office.” Let the Mayor know that you care about water and sewer rates! Call Mayor Bloomberg's office now at 212-788-3000 and let him know that double-digit increases in water and sewer rates mean that you need double-digit increases in this year's Rent Guidelines. Call Now! Help Make a Difference!
